Q&A: How can I watch a DVD on Windows 10?

Posted on November 5, 2019

Question from Shannon:  I’m a movie buff and I have a large collection of movies on DVD.

I have a DVD player in every room in my house but I also love watching them on my computer while taking short breaks from my work (I’m self-employed and I work from a home office).

The problem is I could watch a DVD with Windows Media Player on my old computer but it won’t play DVDs on my new one.

Is it not possible to watch DVDs with Windows 10? Surely you can, but how?

This is very frustrating so I hope you can help me. Thanks in advance.

Q&A: Is there a way to display the menu bar in Windows Media Player with Windows 7?

Posted on May 28, 2014

windows-media-player-logoQuestion from David:  Unlike the Windows Media Player included in Windows Vista Home Premium, the version in Windows 7 Home Premium on my Samsung laptop does not have a Menu Bar. Is there a way to add or enable one?

Rick’s answer:  Try this David:

1 – Launch Windows Media Player.

2 – Press the Alt key by itself and you’ll see a menu pop up.

3 – Click the Show menu bar option.

Note: Pressing the Alt key in most Windows programs will display the “File menu” in situations where it isn’t already displayed by default.

That should do it David. Please let me know if it works for you.

Update from David:  Yes it does. Many thanks.

windows-8-logoIf you’re one of the relatively few seasoned Windows users who have made the switch to Windows 8, you have probably already noticed that Microsoft’s Music App is now the default player for MP3s as well as most types of video files. But by changing a single setting you can have your music and videos open in Windows Media Player instead.

Of course there’s absolutely nothing wrong with having the Music App set as your system’s default media player, but most people (myself included) tend to prefer Windows Media Plater. If you’re one of them too, you can follow these steps to set Windows Media Player as the default app:  [Read more…]
