How to convert all your WordPress blog’s URLS from ‘http’ to ‘https’ after enabling SSL encryption

Posted on April 9, 2021

If you’re a blogger you probably know that securing your blog with SSL encryption is now a must if you want your blog to succeed, for these reasons:

1 – Google has now started giving preference to SSL secure https pages in their search results.

That means all other things being equal, pages that have URLs that begin with https will rank higher than pages that begin with http.

Google has also begun displaying the URL’s of encrypted pages in their search results. That means it won’t be long before many searchers will simply skip over non-secure pages and visit the next available secure page instead.  [Read more…]

ATTN Bloggers: Chrome is now flagging non-https pages as ‘Not Secure’ right in the address bar!

Posted on June 12, 2019

If you’re a blogger and your blog hasn’t yet been secured with SSL/TLS encryption you need to get that done ASAP!

Back in December 2017 I wrote this post warning bloggers about the need to get their blogs encrypted before Google started actively penalizing non-secured sites.

Well, that day has come…

Google recently rolled out an update to their Chrome browser that causes it to now flag unencrypted pages as “Not Secure” right in the address bar!

Up until recently it was widely understood that only sites that collected credit card data or other sensitive visitor information really needed to be encrypted, but Google has changed that by deciding to clearly mark non-encrypted pages as “Not Secure”.

To show you what I’m talking about, I took a partial screenshot of a web page that I knew to be unencrypted at the time I began writing this post (the site has since been encrypted): [Read more…]

Warning: Chrome and other browsers might soon stop trusting your blog’s SSL/TLS certificate!

Posted on March 13, 2018

Is your blog encrypted with an SSL/TLS certificate? If it isn’t, it really needs to be, and quick!

But that’s a story for another day. This post is a warning about the security certificate that you could be using on your blog right now.

Google has announced that their Chrome browser will soon stop trusting certificates issued by Symantec and several Symantec-owned companies (Thawte, VeriSign, Equifax, GeoTrust, and RapidSSL).

In a nutshell, if your blog is secured by certificates that were issued by one of these companies your blog won’t be displayed in the upcoming versions of the Chrome browser.

What’s more, the other major browsers are expected to quickly follow Chrome’s lead.

Instead of seeing your blog, your visitors will see this warning in Chrome (or something similar if they’re using a different browser):  [Read more…]

ATTN Bloggers: Your blog’s traffic will plummet in 2018 unless you install SSL encryption

Posted on December 18, 2017

I’ve been sounding the warning about the impending doom of unencrypted blogs for months, and now it’s crunch time.

Word to the wise: You need to install SSL encryption on your blog right now if you don’t want to endure a drastic reduction in traffic in early 2018.

Why do I say that, you wonder?

Well, the following things will soon begin to happen if your blog doesn’t have a valid SSL certificate installed and properly configured:  [Read more…]

How to turn on SSL Encryption for your Yahoo Mail account

Posted on February 9, 2013

yahoo-mail-logoThe proliferation of free Wi-Fi access points has made it a lot easier to stay connected with the online world these days. Now, finding a usable Wi-Fi hotspot is literally just as easy as finding the nearest McDonalds or other fast food joint.

But along with the convenience of free Wi-Fi comes a real and serious danger. Unsecured Wi-Fi signals make your unencrypted emails readily available to hackers and snoops, and guess where hackers and snoops just love to hang out? In establishments that offer free Wi-Fi access! [Read more…]
