How to disable ‘Beeping’ notifications on Facebook

Posted on February 7, 2018

By default, when you receive a notification on Facebook your speakers will make a beeping sound.

That’s fine if you’re alone and you don’t receive all that many notifications, but if you’re at work or in a public place all those ‘beeps’ can really get annoying to the people around you.

Even worse, all that beeping can get on your own nerves as well, especially if you tend to receive lots of notifications throughout the day.

Luckily, it’s quite easy to disable beeping notifications on Facebook. Just follow the steps below:  [Read more…]

About that “I was wondering why my news feed looks so different recently” post that everyone is sharing on Facebook…

Posted on February 6, 2018

As you probably know our Facebook newsfeeds are constantly being filled with posts of dire warnings to “do this” or “do that” or something bad will happen.

They usually ask you to share the post with your friends as well.

And as you also probably know, the vast majority of those “share this or suffer the consequences” type of posts are hoaxes and scams.

That being said, every now and then one of these posts will actually be based upon actual facts.

One case in point is a post that’s been making the rounds of late. The actual text may vary a bit, but it looks something like this:  [Read more…]

How to become a ‘Pirate’ on Facebook

Posted on January 12, 2018

facebook-pirateNote: Facebook has removed the “English (Pirate)” option from the list of supported languages, rendering this post moot.

Original post continues below…

Facebook has an enormous user base that literally spans the globe, which means they necessarily support a number of other languages in addition to English.

One of those supported languages is “Pirate English”. And yes, I am very serious.

Once you set your preferred language to Pirate English, you’ll be greeted with “Pirate language” in various places on the page (don’t worry, it’s all family friendly and in good fun!).

If you’d like to give it a try, follow these simple instructions to become a “Pirate” on Facebook:  [Read more…]

Q&A: I received an instant message from ‘Facebook User’. How can I find out who sent it?

Posted on December 12, 2017

Question from Connie G.:  I have a question about Facebook and I’m really hoping you an answer it for me.

Yesterday morning I received a very intriguing private message from someone telling me we went to school together.

They said they saw my name pop up after I left a comment on a picture that a mutual friend had posted and they’d like to reconnect with me.

The thing is there’s no name listed for the sender. All it says is “Facebook User”.

I can’t reply to the message (It says “You cannot reply to this conversation”) and there’s no link to click to look at their profile.

I’m curious as to who this person could be since I graduated from high school over 20 years ago. Is there any way to find out who sent me that message?

Guess what? Facebook will soon be asking you to upload nude photos of yourself.

Posted on November 10, 2017

As you probably know, Facebook is constantly making changes to both their website and their policies.

Some of those changes are good, and some of them are bad (at least from the user’s point of view).

But every now and then they come up with one that leaves me not quite knowing what to think about it. A perfect case-in-point is a new anti-revenge porn initiative they’re currently testing.  [Read more…]
