Q&A: If I delete a message I sent to someone on Facebook Messenger will they still see it?

Posted on August 9, 2018

Question from Anthony:  If I send a message to someone on Facebook Messenger but then immediately change my mind and delete it, will the other person still see it?

I got mad at my girlfriend and sent her a really mean message. I’m afraid if she sees it she’ll break up with me.

I deleted the message less than 30 seconds after I sent it.

Q&A: How can I find out if two Facebook users have any mutual friends?

Posted on July 8, 2018

Question from Karla P.:  I know that if I look at someone’s Facebook profile it’ll tell me if we have any mutual friends (and how many mutual friends we have).

What I need is some way to find out if two Facebook users have mutual friends with each other (not with me).

In other words, is there a way to find out if “John Doe” and “Jane Doe” have any mutual friends?

How to change your Twitter password

Since that announcement was made I’ve received several requests for instructions for resetting the password on Twitter. That got me to thinking that maybe I should write those instructions up in a blog post.  [Read more…]

Facebook confirms their “Does this post contain hate speech?” messages were a test (that went very wrong)

Posted on May 2, 2018

Some folks believed the strange “Does this post contain hate speech?” question that was displayed on every post in some users’ newsfeeds was simply a glitch and not something that Facebook was really testing.

Well, it was indeed a real test, but it was apparently rolled out prematurely and it quickly went off the rails.  [Read more…]

Facebook has started asking some users “Does this post contain hate speech?”

Posted on May 1, 2018

As you surely already know, the opinions and attitudes of Facebook users vary widely.

After all, with 1.5 billion users there are going to be people expressing opinions that don’t exactly match with those of other users.

Unfortunately, some of the views expressed in the posts, memes and videos can be quite offensive to some users.

But at what point does a post cross the line into what is commonly referred to nowadays as “hate speech”?

Well, Facebook has come up with a plan to find out, and they want you to help!

Starting today, some users are now seeing this question on every post that shows up in their newsfeed:  [Read more…]
