How to enable Two-Factor Authentication on your Pinterest account

Posted on November 15, 2018

As you probably know, enabling Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) on an online account is just about the most effective way there is to prevent hackers from breaking into it.

In a nutshell, once Two-Factor Authentication has been enabled a hacker would have to have physical possession of your mobile phone in order to successfully login that account, even if he knows both your username and password.

These days virtually every major online service allows users to enable Two-Factor Authentication on their accounts, and luckily that includes the massively popular Pinterest.

If you would like to enable Two-Factor Authentication on your own Pinterest account you can easily do so by following the steps below:  [Read more…]

Q&A: How can I disable the ‘Memories’ (i.e. old posts) that pop up on Facebook?

Posted on November 6, 2018

Questions from Ellen H.:  Hi Rick. I need your help with something on Facebook.

Can tell me how to disable the “Memories” posts that pop up in my newsfeed every day? I don’t like them.

They would be ok if they didn’t have a habit of reminding me of bad events from the past. The one from yesterday was about my divorce, and it really disturbed me.

I hope you can help me disable them. Thanks Rick.

Was your Facebook account compromised by the recent big hack? Find out right now.

Posted on October 16, 2018

By now you’re probably aware of the recent massive Facebook hack. After all, it’s been all over the news these past few days.

At last count this hack has resulted in at least 30 million users having at least some of their personal info stolen.

Unfortunately, the total number of users affected by the hack is still unknown, but Facebook is still investigating the breach so hopefully they’ll get it all sorted out before too long.

In the meantime, the company has published a special page on their website that will tell you if your account is one of the accounts already known to be affected.

Q&A: How do I enable Two-Factor Authentication on Instagram?

Posted on September 19, 2018

Question from Darla P.:  Hi Rick. I hope you’re doing well!

I’ve been reading your blog for a while now and I’ve used your great posts on enabling Two-Factor Authentication to enable it on several of my online accounts.

I’d really like to enable it on my Instagram account too, but I can’t find anything on your site that has instructions for doing it.

I occasionally use Instagram on my computer but I use it mostly on my mobile devices. Can you tell me how to enable Two-Factor Authentication for Instagram on my phone?

Here’s why Facebook keeps switching your Newsfeed from ‘Most Recent’ to ‘Top Stories’

Posted on August 10, 2018

It’s been a good while now since Facebook rolled out the “Top Stories” method of displaying posts in our Newsfeeds.

Well, everything that I have seen and read about it clearly indicate that the vast majority of users absolutely hate it.

I receive at least three or four messages every week asking me how to prevent Facebook from randomly switching the Newsfeed from “Most Recent” to “Top Stories”, and every time I have to give the same answer: “You can’t”.

Truth be told, you actually can do it with the help of a third-party browser add-on called Social Fixer, but that shouldn’t be required in my opinion.

You really should be able to disable auto-switching to “Top Stories” in the Facebook settings without having to install another piece of software on your computer, but that simply isn’t possible right now.  [Read more…]
