Q&A: Why do your old ‘Pictures of the Day’ on Facebook all show the same photo after you click on them?

Posted on February 12, 2021

Question from Nina P.:  Hi Rick. First, I want to thank you for sharing all the beautiful pictures with us every morning.

They really start my day off on a positive note!

Now, a question. When I go through your page and click on the older pictures it always shows the last one you posted.

Why is that? I love seeing the old photos too!

Check out Apple’s fantastic free mini-course for taking better photos with your iPhone

Posted on August 12, 2020

It’s no secret that the cameras built into Apple’s most recent iPhones are capable of producing outstanding images that rival those taken by many DSLR cameras.

In fact, a simple Google search for “best iphone photos” returns page after page featuring some of the most incredible images you will ever see.

While most any pro photographer can use virtually any camera to take pro-quality photos, the folks at Apple are on a mission to help us casual photographers use our iPhones to create the very best images possible.  [Read more…]

How to quickly create a mini-collage of your favorite photos

Posted on April 30, 2019

four-photo-collage-smallEvery now and then I have a need to combine two or more photos into a single image by arranging them side by side and/or over top of one another.

To get an idea of what I’m talking about, take a look at the image on the right.

It’s actually pretty easy to create a mini-collage like this with most popular image editing programs, but I’ve found a much easier and faster way to do it.

Just fire up your web browser and click over to the wonderful online Combine Images tool from the folks over at QuickPictureTools.com.  [Read more…]

Q&A: Can you recommend a good, but relatively inexpensive DSLR camera kit for a student?

Question from Helen C.:  My son is going to be taking a photography class next semester with an eye towards eventually become a professional photographer.

He needs a DSLR camera to get him through this class, and hopefully beyond. I’m planning to buy him one for Christmas and I need some advice.

I really don’t know that much about cameras in general, and virtually nothing at all about the DSLRs that are currently on the market.

Can you recommend a good, but relatively inexpensive DSLR that would be a good choice for a photography student?

If possible, I’d like to get something for around $600 or less, and a few included accessories would be nice (yeah, I’m a dreamer lol).

Thanks for your help in advance. (Love your site by the way!!!)

Q&A: How do I edit Image Size in pixels instead of inches with Adobe Photoshop Elements?

Posted on June 8, 2018

Question from Melinda Q.:  I recently bought a new laptop because my old one died on me.

I installed Photoshop Elements on the new laptop from the same installation disc that I used to install it on the old one.

It seems to be working fine except for one thing: It won’t let me resize images in pixels. The only thing I can change is the document size (in inches).

On my old laptop I could change the image size in pixes but on the new one I don’t have that option. What am I doing wrong?
