Apple apologizes for intentionally bricking customers’ iPhones (and releases a fix)

iphone-6-plus A couple of weeks ago I wrote a post explaining how you could brick your iPhone 6 by having it repaired by anyone other than Apple’s own techs.

To recap, Apple recently released an update to iOS that caused any iPhone 6 that was repaired by a third-party repair shop to freeze up and display a permanent “Error 53” the next time it was booted up.

Apple’s response to the thousands of customers who asked the company to fix the error was, in effect, “Sorry, but you’ll have to buy a new phone”. [Read more…]

Q&A: Why does the touch screen on my iPhone 6 Plus stop working at random times?

Question from Gracie: The touch screen on my iPhone 6 Plus has started freezing up on me at random times.

There doesn’t seem to be any kind of pattern as to when the issue arises. The screen just stops responding to taps and swipes on occasion. It will usually start working again after a few minutes if I just leave it alone and don’t touch it.

This is really irritating because I can’t even answer a call if it comes in when the screen is froze. Can you tell me how to fix it?

How to add extensions to numbers in your smart phone’s address book

iphone Do you make frequent calls to someone at a business where you have to enter an extension number in order to reach that person? If so, you can easily append the extension right to the end of the number so you won’t have to enter it every time you call.

I’ll explain how to do that, but first we need to discuss two common ways that switchboards handle calls to extensions:

1 – Most switchboards will answer your call and give you a list of menu options. If you know the extension number of the person you wish to speak with, you can dial it at any time without waiting for the message/menu to finish “talking”.

2 – Other switchboards require you to listen to the entire recorded message/menu before entering the extension number.
