Q&A: How can I stop receiving the responses to a group text on my iPhone?

Posted on October 21, 2016

ios-messaging-iconQuestion from Billie P.:  I was included in a group text last night and I spent the next hour and a half listening to my iPhone beep almost constantly as the responses came in.

I wasn’t even interested in the subject they were discussing but the beeps kept coming anyway. It annoyed me so much I ended up turning my phone off.

Is there any way to block everyone’s responses to a group text on an iPhone 6s?

Q&A: How can I prevent my iPhone from automatically syncing when I plug it into my computer?

Posted on August 20, 2016

ios-logoQuestion from Carla V.:  Every time I plug my iPhone into my computer it automatically starts syncing. I don’t want that because I have things on my phone that I don’t want on my other devices.

I know there has to be a way to disable the automatic syncing. Can you tell me how to do it?

Cook says he believes that creating a “back door” into the phone’s encrypted storage area will make all iOS devices vulnerable to hacking, putting their users at risk of losing their privacy. In my opinion, that’s a dubious claim at best.  [Read more…]

Apple apologizes for intentionally bricking customers’ iPhones (and releases a fix)

Posted on February 23, 2016

iphone-6-plusA couple of weeks ago I wrote a post explaining how you could brick your iPhone 6 by having it repaired by anyone other than Apple’s own techs.

To recap, Apple recently released an update to iOS that caused any iPhone 6 that was repaired by a third-party repair shop to freeze up and display a permanent “Error 53” the next time it was booted up.

Apple’s response to the thousands of customers who asked the company to fix the error was, in effect, “Sorry, but you’ll have to buy a new phone”.  [Read more…]

How to backup or restore your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch with iCloud

Posted on September 15, 2015

ios-logo-2If you have an Phone, iPad or iPod Touch you probably have tons of apps, photos, music and other files on your device(s).

Making regular backups will ensure that you’ll be able to easily restore all of those precious items if something should ever happen to your device.

You have several options when deciding how to back up your iOS device, but my preferred method by far is backing up to your iCloud account. If you’d like to use iCloud to store your backups as well, here’s how to do it:  [Read more…]
