Q&A: How can I keep my laptop from over-heating?

Posted on March 27, 2022

Question from Keenan:  I have a three year old Toshiba laptop that’s currently running Windows 10.

I recently began playing a game with my brother and we love it so much that we spend hours at a time playing it.

The problem is the laptop gets very hot and shuts down in the middle of a game, but it only overheats like this when I’m gaming.

I’ve blown the dust out of this machine but it still overheats. How can I make it run cooler while playing my game?  [Read more…]

Question from Summer G.:  Hi Rick. I’m really worried that my Acer laptop is going to burn itself out.

After it’s been on for just a few minutes it gets so hot I can barely stand to touch the keyboard. And if I leave it on for as little as 15 to 20 minutes it shuts itself off.

What could be causing my laptop to get so hot? Thanks in advance for your help!

2 – For various reasons, the useful life of a typical laptop is around 5 years. After that you’re running on borrowed time, and paying for the privilege rarely makes sense. [Read more…]
