Free texting apps have paid texting plans on life support

Posted on May 1, 2013

heywireIn 2012 more text messages were sent via free texting apps on smart phones than by traditional SMS Text Messaging services, and the number of free texts vs. paid texts is growing at a fast rate. This is a great thing for consumers, but the cell carriers are taking a major financial hit because of it.

SMS text messages have always been a major source of easy profit for the carrier. They cost virtually nothing to transmit but bring in boatloads of cash.

Q&A: Why can’t I watch Youtube videos full screen?

Posted on April 30, 2013

youtube-logoQuestion from Anita P.:  Hi Rick. I hope you can help me. I’m semi-addicted to Youtube and I watch it every day.

I like watching the videos full screen but about a week ago the full screen feature stopped working. Is there any way I can get it to work again? I use Google Chrome as my web browser.

Posted on April 29, 2013

windows-8-logoWhen Microsoft designed Windows 8/8.1 they optimized the boot process in order to make Windows load faster.

If you prefer the convenience of being able to boot into Safe Mode in Windows 8 by pressing the F8 key at startup over the faster boot process, you can re-enable the F8 key and have it work just like it always has. Here’s how:  [Read more…]

A better way to refresh a web page

Posted on April 29, 2013

ctrl-f5Most of us are used to refreshing the current web page in our browser by either clicking the Refresh icon or pressing the F5 key, but there is a better way to refresh a page: Press the Ctrl+F5 key combination.

Why is pressing Ctrl+F5 to refresh the current page better than the other two options? Because it clears the browser cache for the page before reloading it into the browser.  [Read more…]
