Q&A: Is it true that Macs can run ‘unapproved’ software in the latest version of macOS?

Posted on October 16, 2019

Question from Peter:  Lots of programs that I’ve downloaded to my Mac in the past failed to run because they weren’t “approved” by Apple (whatever that means).

Today I heard the tail end of a tech show I listen to on talk radio and they said something about a change in the latest version of macOS that’ll let you run unapproved software.

I’m wondering if this is true because after I got home I tried running a couple of programs that I downloaded a while back and they still won’t run for me.

What’s the story?

Here’s a simple way to automatically save 2% on everything you buy at Amazon

Posted on October 15, 2019

#ad

A while back I wrote a post about how Amazon customers can save 3% on every purchase simply by using their free Amazon Rewards Visa Signature Card. (#ad)

That’s a great way to save some serious cash if you prefer buying with a credit card. One of life’s true no-brainers!

But that being said, not everyone wants to use a credit card for one reason or another.

Luckily, there’s another simple way to give yourself an automatic discount when you’re shopping at Amazon…  [Read more…]

Q&A: Will Office 2019 be the last desktop version of Microsoft Office?

Posted on October 14, 2019

Question from Leslie:  It seems like Microsoft is really pushing customers to sign up for a subscription to Office 365 instead of buying a copy of Office 2019.

Do you think they’re planning to stop selling desktop versions of MS Office and force everyone to start using Office 365 instead?

The reason I’m asking is I just bought a new PC and I’m trying to decide whether to buy Office 2019 or sign up for Office 365.

I don’t want to buy Office 2019 if they’re just going to abandon it like they do older versions of Windows.

How to schedule posts on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn for publication at a later time

Posted on October 12, 2019

There are times when it would be nice to have the ability to schedule a post to go live on your Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn timeline at a later date and time.

Facebook already allows users to schedule posts for future publication on “business pages”, but they don’t allow you to do it with your personal account. And neither do Twitter and LinkedIn.

However, a fantastic service called TwitTimer allows you to schedule your posts for later publication on all three of those social media platforms.  [Read more…]

Q&A: How can I hide the retweets from someone I follow on Twitter but keep receiving their own tweets?

Posted on October 11, 2019

Question from Melanie W.:  I have a question about Twitter that I hope you can answer for me.

I’m following a woman who’s a news anchor on my local TV station.

I really love her tweets because they’re always interesting and informative, but she retweets like crazy and most of the things she retweets don’t interest me at all.

I know I could unfollow her but then I wouldn’t be able to see the tweets she posts.

Is there a way to keep following this person and see the tweets she posts herself but not see any of her retweets?
