Q&A: How can I stop the flood of emails from Facebook?

Posted on October 4, 2020

Question from Reba:  I’ve been on Facebook for a while and I keep getting hundreds of emails from them every day.

I don’t need all these emails because I always check my notifications on Facebook.

How can I stop them from being sent to my email?

I have another new Book on Amazon: ‘Master Guide To Protecting Your Privacy And Security With Windows 10’

Posted on October 4, 2020

My new eBook Master Guide To Protecting Your Privacy And Security With Windows 10 is now published and ready for purchase on Amazon.

As with my other eBook (the one explaining how to stay safe on Facebook), this one is listed at 99 cents.

Again, I wanted to give this book away for free to help as many people as possible regain their privacy and security when using Windows 10, but Amazon requires authors to choose a purchase price of at least 99 cents.

This book contains all the Windows 10 privacy and security tips that I have written about on this blog, but this puts them all in one place that can easily be kept on your computer or mobile device.

Although it’s a Kindle eBook, you can read it on any device by downloading Amazon’s free Kindle app.

Q&A: Can you recommend a good ‘Screen Recorder’ app for Linux that’s easy to use?

Posted on October 3, 2020

Question from Earnie:  I’ve been following you on Facebook for a long time Rick, and I’ve learned a lot from the great info you post.

One post that really helped was the one where you basically said we need to ditch Windows 7 because it’s no longer being supported. I had no idea!

After reading that post and pondering my options for several days I finally took your advice and replaced the Windows 7 on my laptop with Linux Mint, and I believe it was a good move.

I checked your list of Linux replacements for Windows programs (very helpful, thanks!) for a screen recorder app but I didn’t see one listed.

I searched Google for Linux screen recorder apps and found several but all the ones I tried are too complicated for what I need.

All I need is a very simple app that can record everything that happens inside the active window.

Is there one that you can recommend?

How to prevent spammers from leaving comments on your WordPress blog

Posted on October 2, 2020

If you’ve recently started writing a blog you’ll soon begin to see spammers leaving comments on your blog posts.

Sadly, dealing with spammers is just a fact of life for those of us in the blogging world.

SPAM comments are usually very easy to recognize because they typically have nothing whatsoever to do with the actual content of the post and they typically contain links to sites selling everything from designer sunglasses to, well…”adult” products.

If you allow SPAMMY comments to be left on your blog they’ll quickly have a negative effect on your traffic numbers.

Even worse, the visitors who do manage to find their way onto your blog will likely leave rather quickly, never to return.

Luckily, there are some things you can do to virtually block all SPAM comments from your blog:  [Read more…]

5 tips for enhancing the security of your Facebook account

Posted on October 2, 2020

It seems like much of this past week was spent answering various questions about Facebook, so I thought I would pass along a few links to some of the posts I referred to in my responses.

Probably the most common Facebook question that I receive is how to prevent one’s account from getting hacked. And the answer is it all boils down to security.

With that in mind, here are five things you can do to make your Facebook account as secure as possible: [Read more…]
