Q&A: Will resetting Windows remove all viruses from the PC?

Posted on May 2, 2024

Question from Kim:  I have a 2 year old Windows laptop that appears to be infected with viruses because it acts weird all the time and it runs really slow.

Also, my Norton software keeps finding two viruses that it can’t remove and I don’t know what to do next.

I’ve heard that resetting Windows will remove all the viruses from the system. Is that true or do you think I should just break down and buy a new laptop?

If you think I can just do the reset can you tell me how do to it?  [Read more…]

Question from Maria:  Hi, Rick. I recently purchased a MacBook Air with an M processor.

I am new to MacBooks so I am on a learning curve even though I have both an iPhone and an iPad.

I wanted to buy an external hard drive for my processor but have no idea what type I should get. I would like it mainly to back up my iTunes library and photos. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I really like the idea of using free software whenever possible, but I want to make sure my laptop is protected from all the nasty viruses that are out there these days.

My question: Are the free antivirus programs really just as good as the ones you pay for?  [Read more…]

Posted on May 1, 2024

One of my Facebook friends recently asked me what a person should do if their Facebook account gets hacked.

I answered her in a Facebook post but then thought it might be a good idea to post it on the blog as well.

The first thing you need to do is determine whether your account has indeed been hacked, or merely cloned.  [Read more…]

Q&A: Where can I download Microsoft Office for free?

Posted on May 1, 2024

Question from Danita.:  I bought a used laptop from a friend a while back and it had Microsoft Office on it.

When I asked him if he had the installation disk he said he had downloaded it from a site that gives away programs for free.

The hard drive in the laptop stopped working a few days ago and I had to have it replaced.

Can you give me the link to the page where I can download MS Office for free? [Read more…]
