Today’s quick tech tip….

How to give your laptop an immediate performance boost

Are there times when your laptop could use a little extra oomph in order to complete an important task?

By default, Windows 11 laptops use a “Balanced” power mode that prevents the machine from running at peak performance in order to extend its battery life.

This setting is generally the best one to use in most situations, but you can temporarily change the power mode from “Balanced” to “Best performance” during those times when you really need the machine to run as fast as possible. Here’s how:

1 – Right-click the Start button, then select Settings from the menu.

2 – Make sure the System tab is open, then click Power & battery in the right-hand column.

3 – Scroll down to the “Power” section and change the “Power mode” setting to Best performance.

4 – Click the X in the upper-right corner to close the “Settings” app.

That’s all there is to it. Your laptop should now run a bit faster than it did before.

After you complete the important task you can always reset the power mode to “Balanced” in order to make the battery charge last longer once again.

Bonus tip: If you tend to keep your laptop plugged into its charger at all times (which is perfectly fine, by the way), you might want to leave the power mode set to “Best performance” since battery life won’t be an issue.
