It’s a simple fact of modern life that as mobile devices become increasingly more powerful, they also need increasingly more storage capacity.

Flash memory maker SanDisk has been selling an already huge 128GB microSD card (#ad)  for about a year now, but they aren’t about to stop there. In fact, the company has just announced a brand new microSD card that almost doubles that amount of storage space.  [Read more…]

Lenovo promises to start releasing new PCs without ANY adware or bloatware

Posted on March 2, 2015

lenovo-logoLast week I wrote about the incredible Lenovo Superfish fiasco, and it appears that the company just might have learned a valuable lesson from the incredible backlash they received from it.

The folks at Lenovo have released a statement explaining how customer security and privacy are among the company’s top priorities (Really? Could have fooled me!)  [Read more…]

Firefox releases update to patch 16 security flaws, some of them critical

Posted on February 28, 2015

firefox-logoMozilla has just released a major update to the popular Firefox browser that patches 16 security flaws, three of them rated critical.

This latest version is 36.0, and if you have Firefox set to update automatically you don’t have anything to worry about as it will all be taken care of for you.

But if you have it set to allow you to install updates manually, I recommend that you update to version 36.0 immediately. And by the way, if you have Firefox set to never check for updates…well, it would probably be a good idea to change that.

Follow these steps to check if you’re running the latest version of Firefox:  [Read more…]

Scam Alert: Beware the insidious fake AdwCleaner look-alike that’s going around (it’s actually malware)

scamA few months ago I wrote about an awesome anti-malware program called AdwCleaner.

This free utility will quickly scan for and remove virtually every type of unwanted toolbar, adware and browser hijacker that’s out there from your computer.

As I explained in the post, AdwCleaner works great, and since it’s free I highly recommend that everyone download it and run it on occasion.

Well, now the scammers have turned the tables on AdwCleaner by creating a fake look-alike program that claims to be the real AdwCleaner, but is actually malware.

This is how the scam works:  [Read more…]

Why you should avoid buying Sony’s new ‘Premium Sound’ memory card

Posted on February 23, 2015

sony-premium-sound-memory-cardWould you willingly pay an extra $100+ for a memory card that promises to deliver “Premium Sound” from your audio device?

I wouldn’t, even if it worked as promised. But that’s just me because I’m not an audiophile who only enjoys listening to music when it’s reproduced in its purest form.

That being said, lots of folks are audiophiles, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that.

But even if you happen to be an audiophile of the first order, I would still recommend taking a pass on Sony’s new $160 “Premium Sound” micro SDXC card. Why? Because it’s a total waste of money in my opinion. Read on and I’ll explain why…  [Read more…]
