Today’s quick tech tip….

How to change the default zoom level in Chrome

A previous tip explained how to quickly make everything on a web page either larger or smaller in your Chrome browser by quickly changing the ‘zoom’ level on the fly.

If you happened to miss that post, here are two ways to do it using the keyboard and mouse…

1 – Hold down the Ctrl key while pressing the + or – key.

or…

2 – Hold down the Ctrl key while rolling the mouse wheel.

Either of those two methods will allow you to quickly change the zoom level.

But what if you’d like to permanently change the zoom level for every website you visit with Chrome?

Well, as luck would have it, that’s very easy to do as well by changing a simple Chrome setting. Here’s how:

1 – Click the Customize and control icon in the top-right corner of the Chrome window (it looks like three vertical dots).

2 – Click Settings.

3 – In the left-hand pane, click Appearance.

4 – In the right-hand pane, click inside the drop-down box in the “Page zoom” field and select a new zoom level.

5 – Try a few different zoom levels until you find the one that works best for you.

That’s all there is to it. From now on every page you visit with Chrome will be displayed at your new preferred zoom level.

Bonus tip: While you’re on that same Settings screen you might also want to experiment with the default Font size.
