How (and when) to repair or reset the Windows 11 Settings app

Posted on June 5, 2024

The Settings app is home to many of the settings you can change to tweak Windows 11 and make it work better for you.

But just like any other app, the Settings app can occasionally go sideways and stop working as it should. And in extreme cases it can stop working at all.

There are a number of things you can try in order to fix the Settings app if it starts acting up on you, but I always start with first trying to repair the app.  [Read more…]

Q&A: Can the Settings app on a Windows PC be disabled?

Posted on January 1, 2024

Question from Kandi:  I bought my 9 year old son a new laptop for his birthday. He loves it and uses it every day.

The problem is I have already had to take it to the Geek Squad twice to fix issues he caused by changing some system settings.

I know that’s what he’s doing because I saw him using the Settings app.

Is there a way to disable the Settings app on his computer to prevent that from happening again? I really need to preserve my sanity!  [Read more…]

Q&A: Why won’t the Settings app load after upgrading to Windows 10?

Posted on September 20, 2015

Windows-10-logoQuestion from Karin S.:  Hi Rick. I’ve been reading your help and tips for my computer for a long time now, and I find the information very helpful, so thank you!

Since upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 10 everything seems to be ok as I slowly figure out where everything has gone and how it works.

But I have a problem: A lot of your tips start with clicking on “Start” and then “Settings”. I have found that nothing happens when I click Settings. It kind of flashes a bit but nothing opens.

Could you tell me how to fix this so that I have a ‘Settings click’ that actually works? Thanks so much, in advance. -Karin
