Review: PDFelement 7 Pro for Mac

Posted on April 27, 2020

The use of PDF is as ubiquitous as that of Android or Google Chrome nowadays.

As one of the most widely used file formats, every company needs a robust PDF editor to handle their document workflows.

However, if your office runs in a Mac environment, the number of tools available to manage PDFs is limited.

That’s why it’s important to fully know the capabilities of any potential document you plan to deploy across your organization, no matter how large or small.

To that end, I’ve reviewed one of the fastest-growing PDF editors on the market today: PDFelement Pro 7 for Mac. [Read more…]

Q&A: Is it true that Macs can run ‘unapproved’ software in the latest version of macOS?

Posted on October 16, 2019

Question from Peter:  Lots of programs that I’ve downloaded to my Mac in the past failed to run because they weren’t “approved” by Apple (whatever that means).

Today I heard the tail end of a tech show I listen to on talk radio and they said something about a change in the latest version of macOS that’ll let you run unapproved software.

I’m wondering if this is true because after I got home I tried running a couple of programs that I downloaded a while back and they still won’t run for me.

What’s the story?

Q&A: What’s the easiest way to install OS X onto a Mac Pro that has a new hard drive?

Posted on March 6, 2019

Question from Gill: On a whim I bought a used Mac Pro at a yard sale for a ridiculously low price. I figured it was worth taking a chance on.

When I got it home I plugged it in and it powered up just fine, but I found out there was no hard drive in it.

I had a used hard drive that I had removed from another computer so I installed it in the Mac Pro.

The problem is I don’t know how to install OS X onto the new hard drive. Can you tell me the best (and hopefully easiest) way to do that?

Scam alert: If you receive a pop-up saying “Apple wants to make changes” on your Mac, it’s probably due to a malware infection.

Posted on September 10, 2018

Lots of Mac users have started receiving pop-up messages stating something like this:

“Apple wants to make changes. Type your password to allow this.“

Questions about this pop-up are currently being asked in most all the popular Mac support forums online, and as you can imagine these folks are quite concerned that something untoward is happening with their Macs.

Well, their concern is indeed warranted because the “Apple wants to make changes…” pop-up is likely being caused by malware.  [Read more…]

HazeOver helps Mac users concentrate on the task at hand

Posted on April 5, 2018

hazeover-logoIf you’re a Mac user who tends to have several windows open on the desktop at any given time, you might find yourself getting distracted at times by all the other stuff that’s on the screen.

If so, there’s a fantastic app called HazeOver that can help minimize the distractions from background windows.

In a nutshell, Hazeover dims everything in the background while keeping the active window bright and clear. You can still see everything that’s dimmed in case something important changes, but your attention will remain focused on the active window.

Here’s a short video that shows HazeOver in action:  [Read more…]
