Q&A: How do I uninstall Internet Explorer from my Windows 10 PC?

Question from Nolan R.: I just bought a new laptop with Windows 10 to replace my old one that had Windows 7 on it.

The new laptop came with Internet Explorer 11 installed but I don’t need (or want) IE because I use Chrome all the time.

The problem is IE doesn’t come up in the list of programs to be uninstalled. If it’s there, I can’t find it.

I’d really like to uninstall it if I possibly can because I’ve heard that it’s a security risk and a drag on system performance.

Can you tell me how to remove IE 11 from my PC? Thank you.

Q&A: How can I make the Desktop the default download folder in IE 11?

Question from Danny H.: Hi there Rick. I see that you answer computer questions, so maybe you can help me do something that I’ve been wanting to do for a long time.

How can I make the Desktop my default download folder in Internet Explorer 11 on my Windows 7 laptop? I only download something every once in a blue moon, but it would be nice not to have to click “Save as” and choose the Desktop every time.

How to stop Internet Explorer 11 from suggesting irrelevant sites in the address bar

I don’t know about you, but I really like how Internet Explorer 11 provides a drop-down list of site suggestions when I type a letter into the address bar.

For example, if I type the letter R it’ll display RicksDailyTips.com, RealClearPolitics.com and several other sites that begin with the letter R. To visit a site on the list, all I have to do is click on its URL. [Read more…]

Internet Explorer 11 now available for Windows 7

When Microsoft released Windows 8.1, they released the brand new Internet Explorer 11 along with it. The IE 11 reviews that I have read have been very good overall, and my own testing shows that it’s definitely an improvement over IE 10 (which was already the best version of IE ever).

As of yesterday, if you’re a Windows 7 user who prefers Internet Explorer over the other major web browsers, you can download IE 11 onto your PC as well. Should you? In my opinion, the answer is yes.
