Q&A: How can I speed up my WordPress blog?

Posted on November 24, 2023

Question from Sam:  Hello Rick. I need some advice if you don’t mind.

I ran some page speed tests on my blog and found out that it takes almost 8 seconds for my home page to finish loading.

I know I need to make my pages load faster but I don’t know what else to try.

I’ve already removed all but the most important images from my posts and cut the number of WordPress plugins from 37 down to 24.

I’ve noticed that your Rick’s Daily Tips blog loads lightning fast. What did you do to get the pages to load so quickly?

How a plagiarism checker can protect your blog’s reputation

Posted on November 24, 2023

Plagiarism is a direct form of stealing someone’s intellectual property, and that is why it is considered a grave violation.

As a blog owner, you may face multiple consequences from search engines as well as the audience; however, losing respect tops them all.

To reinforce your credibility and authenticity, you have to build trust among your audience by publishing original and plagiarism-free blogs. If you are wondering how you can authenticate your content and ensure it is 100% unique, read on…  [Read more…]

Want to receive an alert every time your blog goes down?

Posted on October 24, 2023

One of a blogger’s worst nightmares is having a busy blog go down and stay down for several hours. That happened to me a while back with this very blog.

I woke up one morning and discovered that RicksDailyTips.com wouldn’t load in my browser. It was completely “dead in the water” as the old saying goes.

I tried loading a couple of other blogs that reside on the same server, only to be met with the same depressing result. The server had obviously gone belly-up at some point during the overnight hours. [Read more…]

Q&A: Why isn’t LinkedIn including a photo when I share my blog posts?

Posted on August 24, 2023

Question from Gwendolyn:  I write a WordPress blog where I talk about women’s issues and I always update LinkedIn with the URL to every post I write.

I’ve been doing this for over two years and LinkedIn has always displayed a photo from the post along with the title and text snippet, but lately it’s been omitting the photo about half the time.

Is there a setting that I might have inadvertently changed to cause the photo not to be displayed on some updates? Am I doing something wrong?  [Read more…]

How to password-protect (or even hide) a post or page in WordPress

Posted on August 17, 2023

If you write a WordPress blog you probably want your posts and pages to be read by as many people as possible. After all, the entire reason for blogging is to share information with others.

But that being said, there might be times when you would like to make a certain post or page available only to a select group of people.

The purpose of this post is to explain how to limit who is allowed to view a post or page that you don’t want to make available to the general public.  [Read more…]
