Warning: This malicious photo being spread on social media could ‘brick’ your smartphone!

Posted on June 2, 2020

If it seems like the scammers of the world are getting more devious by the day, it’s because they are.

While Facebook, Twitter and many other popular social media sites are constantly being used as world-wide playgrounds for the miscreants, the ease with which they can can cause harm to innocent people grows by the day.

The latest dangerous scam involves posting a simple photo with accompanying text telling you to set the photo as your phone’s wallpaper image.

Just so you’ll know what to look for, this is the malicious image being spread that’s causing all the mayhem (DO NOT set it as your phone’s wallpaper!):  [Read more…]

Great news: Apple has reversed their de facto ban on third-party repairs of Apple devices.

Posted on September 1, 2019

It’s no secret that Apple has always opposed allowing third-party repair shops to service Apple products.

As a result, third-party shops weren’t allowed to use genuine Apple parts, which meant they either had to use often inferior after-market replacement parts or buy genuine Apple OEM parts from the gray market.

As you might expect, a third-party repair would also void the device’s warranty.

And to top it all off, just last month Apple released a firmware update for iOS devices that refused to show new batteries that had been installed by third-party techs as “healthy” even when they were brand new genuine Apple batteries that had been obtained on the gray market.

After taking an incredible amount of heat over the new battery policy, Apple has now reversed course by announcing a new program under which authorized third-party repair shops can now fix Apple products using genuine Apple parts that are provided directly by Apple.

In a nutshell, this fantastic app helps you locate and control a lost or stolen Android phone or tablet using another Android device.

With all the personal information that’s stored on smart phones these days, it makes sense to do whatever we can to keep that data out of the hands of would-be scammers and identity thieves.

This app is a great tool for accomplishing that if your Android device ever gets lost or stolen.

Find My Device lets you use another Android device to:  [Read more…]

Have you ever used FaceApp? If so, its Russian creators now own your photos and personal info.

Posted on July 18, 2019

Have you ever used the ultra-popular FaceApp “digital aging” app that’s taking the world by storm right now?

If so, there’s something you should know…

The Terms of Use (TOS) you agreed to when you first installed FaceApp gave its Russian creators the right to download, alter and publish any photos you have stored on your device.

What’s more, it can also use your phone’s camera to take photos (and potentially video) all on its own.
