PC Decrapifier: The 2nd thing you should run on your new Windows PC!

Posted on November 7, 2019

pc-decrapifier-logoAre you planning to buy a brand new Windows computer?

If so, there are a couple of things you need to do the very first time you run it:

1 – Ensure that it’s protected with an effective anti-virus program.

2 – Keep your PC malware-free!

In a perfect world, this wouldn’t even be necessary, but sadly it is. [Read more…]

Q&A: Why does the light on my mouse stay lit when I shut down my computer?

Posted on August 9, 2019

Question from Kelly E.:  I just bought a new computer and there’s one thing about it that has me puzzled.

When I shut the computer down (not put it to sleep, but actually shut it down) the little light on the mouse stays lit.

Why is this happening? I’ve never seen it before. Is there some way to turn it off?

Have you ever used FaceApp? If so, its Russian creators now own your photos and personal info.

Posted on July 18, 2019

Have you ever used the ultra-popular FaceApp “digital aging” app that’s taking the world by storm right now?

If so, there’s something you should know…

The Terms of Use (TOS) you agreed to when you first installed FaceApp gave its Russian creators the right to download, alter and publish any photos you have stored on your device.

What’s more, it can also use your phone’s camera to take photos (and potentially video) all on its own.

Q&A: Which VaultPress subscription do you recommend to backup my WordPress blog?

Posted on March 14, 2019

Question from James A.:  I read your post about why you use VaultPress to back up your blogs and I’d like to give it a try.

I usually publish from 3 to 5 new posts every day, and my posts tend to be pretty in-depth. That means recreating them if they were to get lost would be both difficult and time-consuming.

As I understand it if I choose the cheapest plan then my blog would only be backed up once each day. What concerns me is losing any posts that were published since the last backup was created.

My question is which of their three subscription options should I choose? I don’t want to over-pay but I definitely want to protect my hard work.

Q&A: Why won’t the computer I just built boot into Windows?

Posted on March 7, 2019

Question from Michael:  Hi Rick. I hope you can help me fix a problem I’m having with a brand new PC I just finished building.

After I got everything put together I installed Windows 10 on it and made a few settings changes.

Everything seemed fine and the system booted up normally a total of three times.

But the next time I turned it on the screen stayed blank and the motherboard’s LED error code display stayed on.

I’ve tried turning it off and back on several times but it just won’t boot up.

Any thoughts on what could be causing this? I don’t think it’s a software problem because I haven’t even installed any programs on it yet.
