Today’s Quick Tip….

How to get the Word Count back onto MS Word’s status bar

Several folks have reported that a recent update to some versions of Microsoft Word removed the Word Count from the status bar, and some of them asked for help with getting it back.

I checked into this and found that the update didn’t get rid of the Word Count altogether. It simply took it upon itself to hide it from the status bar.

This doesn’t appear to be a wide-spread issue, but it’s a big one for the people who were affected by it.

If you happen to be one of the unlucky few this happened to, you can easily restore the Word Count display. Here’s how:

1 – Right-click on a blank area of the status bar to display the context menu.

2 – Select the Word Count option (a check mark should appear beside it).

That’s all there is to it. You should now see the Word Count of the current document displayed on the status bar once again.
