Own a Mac, iPhone or iPad? If so, you need to install new security updates ASAP!

Posted on January 25, 2017

Apple has just released several important updates that patch a number of dangerous security holes and squash some rather irritating bugs in macOS and iOS.

Some of the most critical patches were written to fix security flaws in the Safari web browser, an app that many of us use each and every day.

The security holes and bugs being patched range from minor in importance to critical, therefore I recommend that you update all of your Apple devices right away.

It’s very easy to install the updates. Simply follow the instructions below for the Apple devices that you own.  [Read more…]

Affinity Photo: Popular RAW image editor for Mac users is now available for Windows

Posted on January 17, 2017

Most modern digital cameras do an excellent job at tweaking the images they capture in-camera to create great looking JPEG files, and for most casual photographers JPEGs are just fine.

That being said, many professional photographers and serious amateurs prefer shooting in RAW mode in order to retain complete creative control over the photos they take.

Have an unlimited data plan with Verizon? If so, you might be about it lose it.

Are you one of the relatively few Verizon Wireless customers who still have unlimited data plans?

If so, you need to start thinking about either switching to one of Verizon’s limited data plans or changing carriers altogether if you use over 200GB of data per month.

Our friends over at Droid Life and ars Technica are reporting that Verizon is planning to boot unlimited data customers who typically use over 200GB per month off of their unlimited data plans on February 16 if they haven’t voluntarily switched to a limited data plan by that date. [Read more…]

Posted on January 3, 2017

Do you still have a laptop or desktop PC that’s running Windows Vista? If so, you’ll soon have to decide whether want to keep using it or not.

Microsoft officially ended support for Windows XP about a year ago, and Vista is scheduled to get the boot on April 11 of this year.

What does this change mean for Vista users?

Well, your PC won’t simply stop working on April 11. In fact, you won’t notice any change at all from your perspective as a user. But there’s a problem…  [Read more…]

Microsoft admits they went too far in pushing Windows 10 onto their customers

Posted on December 26, 2016

For many Windows users, the biggest frustration of 2016 was having to fight Microsoft tooth and nail just to prevent their PCs from being automatically upgraded to Windows 10.

As you probably remember, the company was determined to get as many users to “accept” the free upgrade to Windows 10 as possible during the free upgrade period.

They kept getting more aggressive by the day as the calendar approached the end of the free upgrade period on July 29, and it finally got to a point where I asked if the “Get Windows 10” app hadn’t actually morphed into the realm of malware.

A lot of people agreed that the app had indeed morphed into malware, but many of the tech experts and pundits that I follow disagreed even though the evidence was quite compelling.

Well, it turns out I was right, and Microsoft themselves just admitted it (in a round-about way).  [Read more…]
