Scam alert: Beware the hoax phrase “It Actually Worked” on Facebook

If you’ve had a Facebook account for more than five minutes you’re probably aware that scams and hoaxes abound on there.

While the scams can be incredibly dangerous, the hoaxes are usually merely irritating instead of being truly harmful.

The thing is, the irritation these hoaxes cause can become quite intense when the same hoaxes keep popping up over and over again.

Luckily, most of the hoaxes that pop up and make the rounds on Facebook include at least one phrase that’s always a dead-giveaway that the post is a hoax.  [Read more…]

Scam alert: Don’t fall for the “Deadline Tomorrow” Facebook hoax

Scams and hoaxes of all types pop up every day on Facebook, and some of them have a habit of rearing their ugly heads time and time again.

These recurring hoaxes are often more annoying than dangerous, but it’s still good to avoid them whenever possible.

Scam alert: Beware the dangerous ‘Facebook Membership Verification’ scam

Well, there’s yet another dangerous Facebook-related scam making the rounds right now.

I know, I’m shocked too!

As usual, there are several variations of this scam.

They seem to primarily be spreading via fake SMS text messages and emails.

However, I’ve seen a few reports of it being spread via IMs on Twitter as well (which is interesting since this is a Facebook-related scam that has nothing to do with Twitter).
