6 reasons for keeping your blog as simple as possible

Posted on November 30, 2023

Like many new bloggers I wanted my first blog to look amazing and have tons of bells and whistles.

For example, I installed a fancy slider that would display an image and snippet from a post, then fade out after a few seconds and “tease” the next post.

That was just the start of my fascination with plugins and other add-ons.

Before long my newly-created blog was as “busy” as a honeybee in a clover field – and I don’t mean “busy” as in having lots of visitors.

After a while I began to notice some things…

Q&A: How can I speed up my WordPress blog?

Posted on November 24, 2023

Question from Sam:  Hello Rick. I need some advice if you don’t mind.

I ran some page speed tests on my blog and found out that it takes almost 8 seconds for my home page to finish loading.

I know I need to make my pages load faster but I don’t know what else to try.

I’ve already removed all but the most important images from my posts and cut the number of WordPress plugins from 37 down to 24.

I’ve noticed that your Rick’s Daily Tips blog loads lightning fast. What did you do to get the pages to load so quickly?

How a plagiarism checker can protect your blog’s reputation

Posted on November 24, 2023

Plagiarism is a direct form of stealing someone’s intellectual property, and that is why it is considered a grave violation.

As a blog owner, you may face multiple consequences from search engines as well as the audience; however, losing respect tops them all.

If your blogs are found to be plagiarized, they’ll instantly create a negative impression, and readers will lose interest in it. Everyone, including search engines, will consider your website as a dishonest source of information.

To reinforce your credibility and authenticity, you have to build trust among your audience by publishing original and plagiarism-free blogs. If you are wondering how you can authenticate your content and ensure it is 100% unique, read on…  [Read more…]

Q&A: Can Windows 11’s roll-back period be extended past 10 days?

Posted on November 16, 2023

Question from Robbie:  A couple of days ago I updated my PC to Windows 11 expecting to have 30 days to change my mind like we had when Windows 10 came out.

But then I found out the window for rolling Windows 11 back to Windows 10 is only 10 days, not 30.

The problem I have is I’m going out of town on business tomorrow and I won’t be back until after the end of the month.

By the time I return the 10 day roll-back period will have expired and I’ll be stuck with Windows 11 even if I end up not liking it.

Is there any way to extend the Windows 11 roll-back period to longer than 10 days (to something like a month)? [Read more…]

Want to receive an alert every time your blog goes down?

Posted on October 24, 2023

One of a blogger’s worst nightmares is having a busy blog go down and stay down for several hours. That happened to me a while back with this very blog.

I woke up one morning and discovered that RicksDailyTips.com wouldn’t load in my browser. It was completely “dead in the water” as the old saying goes.

I tried loading a couple of other blogs that reside on the same server, only to be met with the same depressing result. The server had obviously gone belly-up at some point during the overnight hours. [Read more…]
