If you don’t want Windows 10 you need to do this NOW!

Posted on October 18, 2015

microsoft-windowsIf you’re still running Windows 7 or Windows 8.1, you’ve surely noticed the little “Get Windows 10” icon that’s been sitting in your PC’s notifications area for a while now.

It’s no secret that Microsoft has been trying to get as many people to upgrade to Windows 10 as possible, but up until now you had to actually make a conscious decision to install the update and initiate the process on your own. Well, that has now changed!  [Read more…]

Finally!! Windows 10 lets you paste into a Command Prompt window with CTRL-V.

Posted on October 10, 2015

Windows-10-logoMany of the tips I post on this blog require pasting content into a “Command Prompt” window.

That’s really no big deal because we could always right-click and then click Paste, but many of us prefer pasting with the much faster CTRL-V key combination.

The problem with Windows has always been that CTRL-V simply didn’t work at the Command Prompt. Instead, we had to paste using the mouse.  [Read more…]

Bad news for Microsoft: ‘Edge’ browser is largely being ignored by Windows 10 users

Posted on October 7, 2015

edge-logoWhen Microsoft launched Windows 10 a couple of months ago, they also launched their brand new Edge web browser along with it.

Windows-10-logoIn my opinion Windows 10 is the best version of Windows that Microsoft has ever released. It’s visually appealing, and for the most part it seems to work flawlessly.

As with every version of Windows, there are a few tweaks you can make to your Windows 10 installation that can greatly reduce your system’s startup time and make it run faster overall.  [Read more…]

Q&A: Why won’t the Settings app load after upgrading to Windows 10?

Posted on September 20, 2015

Windows-10-logoQuestion from Karin S.:  Hi Rick. I’ve been reading your help and tips for my computer for a long time now, and I find the information very helpful, so thank you!

Since upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 10 everything seems to be ok as I slowly figure out where everything has gone and how it works.

But I have a problem: A lot of your tips start with clicking on “Start” and then “Settings”. I have found that nothing happens when I click Settings. It kind of flashes a bit but nothing opens.

Could you tell me how to fix this so that I have a ‘Settings click’ that actually works? Thanks so much, in advance. -Karin
