Warning: Don’t buy a Windows 10 device that has just 32GB of storage space!

Posted on April 26, 2019

If you’re shopping for a budget PC or tablet with Windows 10 on it you’ll find plenty of them that come with just 32GB of storage space.

In fact, I’ve reviewed several such low-cost Windows 10 devices on this blog in the past.

And I must say that some of those reviews were glowing.

But that being said, I’ll never review or recommend another Windows 10 device of any kind that comes with just 32 GB of storage.

Q&A: Is Microsoft really going to stop supporting Windows 7 in January?

Posted on April 24, 2019

Question from Darlene G.: I keep receiving a notification on my computer saying Microsoft is going to stop supporting Windows 7 in January.

I really like Windows 7 and I hate the thought of having to upgrade to Windows 10!

Is this really true or is it a scam?

I’ve learned from reading your blog that a lot of scams are spread by notifications like this.

Windows 10 users no longer have to ‘Eject’ removable drives before disconnecting them

Posted on April 8, 2019

If you’re a Windows user you’re probably very familiar with the need to “Eject” your removable drives before disconnecting them from your PC.

In the past Microsoft has always cached the data written to removable media to make the system run a little faster.

That meant we had to “Eject” a removable drive before disconnecting it from the PC to prevent losing any cached, but unwritten data and possibly corrupting the drive’s file system.

Q&A: Why does my laptop keep going into ‘Sleep’ mode after just 2 minutes?

Posted on March 13, 2019

Question from Brad: I have a Dell laptop with Windows 10 and it has a problem that’s driving me up the wall.

Ever since it installed the latest Windows Update it’s been going into sleep mode every time the machine is idle for exactly two minutes (I timed it).

I’ve went through the power settings several times and changed every setting that could possibly place the machine in sleep mode to make it go to sleep after 45 minutes.

But still it goes to sleep after just two minutes. It’s like Windows 10 is completely ignoring my power settings!

Can you tell me how to fix this?

Q&A: Why won’t the computer I just built boot into Windows?

Posted on March 7, 2019

Question from Michael:  Hi Rick. I hope you can help me fix a problem I’m having with a brand new PC I just finished building.

After I got everything put together I installed Windows 10 on it and made a few settings changes.

Everything seemed fine and the system booted up normally a total of three times.

But the next time I turned it on the screen stayed blank and the motherboard’s LED error code display stayed on.

I’ve tried turning it off and back on several times but it just won’t boot up.

Any thoughts on what could be causing this? I don’t think it’s a software problem because I haven’t even installed any programs on it yet.
