Why I recommend replacing Notepad with Notepad++

The Windows Notepad utility is one of the handiest little programs there is, but it comes with a number of frustrating limitations.

But even with those limitations I found myself using it several times a day simply because it’s so convenient.

But no more. I long ago switched to a wonderful free Notepad replacement app called Notepad++.

Q&A: Where do I find Notepad on Windows 8?

Question from Ann J.: Hi Rick. I love your tips!! I have a question, and I just know you can answer it. I bought a new computer and for the life of me I cannot find the Notepad program! I use it all the time, but I can’t figure out how to load it in Windows 8.

Q&A: Notepad is missing from my Start Menu. How do I get it back?

Question from Kris C.: I use Notepad every day, but now it seems to be missing from the Start Menu. What happened to it and how can I get it back on there? My computer is an HP desktop with Windows 7 on it. Thanks.

Rick‘s answer: Hi Kris. There’s really no way to know why Notepad is no longer showing up on the Start Menu as there are many things that can cause that to happen.
