5 tips for enhancing the security of your Facebook account

Posted on October 2, 2020

It seems like much of this past week was spent answering various questions about Facebook, so I thought I would pass along a few links to some of the posts I referred to in my responses.

Probably the most common Facebook question that I receive is how to prevent one’s account from getting hacked. And the answer is it all boils down to security.

With that in mind, here are five things you can do to make your Facebook account as secure as possible: [Read more…]

Get my new eBook “Master Guide To Staying Safe On Facebook”

Posted on August 10, 2020

For some time folks have been asking me to write a book containing my best Facebook security tips and scam alerts.

After much consideration I decided to take the plunge and do just that.

I’m pleased to announce that Master Guide to Staying Safe On Facebook is now available on Amazon.

The purpose of this book is exactly as the title implies. It simply provides the very same Facebook security and safety tips that I have already published on this blog.

So why publish a book containing the same info that’s already available on the blog?

Well, there are a couple of reasons:  [Read more…]

Q&A: Can I get a closed Facebook account reinstated without sending them my ID?

Posted on June 16, 2020

Question from Catherine:  I have a big problem Rick. I clicked a link in a Facebook post and it must have infected my account with a virus because it immediately started sending out SPAM messages.

To be exact, the virus sent a spam message to everyone on my friends list. When I found out about it I changed my password, and everything seemed to be ok.

A few days later, I got married and changed my name on Facebook to my new last name. The next day Facebook deactivated my account.

Now Facebook wants to see a copy of my ID before they’ll reinstate my account.

The thing is I REALLY don’t want to give my drivers license out, especially since I’m not even positive that the message requesting to see it was even sent from Facebook.

Is there some way to get my Facebook account reinstated with just my cell phone number? Thanks.

Posted on June 10, 2020

I’ve recently noticed a major increase in the number of scam posts claiming to offer Ray Ban sunglasses at huge discounts, often at up to 90% off.

These Ray Ban discount scams have been making the rounds for years, but typically just a few here and there at any given time.

But right now it seems they’re everywhere.

These Ray Ban scams take many forms, but most of them involve a simple image similar to the one below: [Read more…]
