Q&A: Is there any way to find out when someone unfriends me on Facebook?

Posted on January 13, 2014

unfriend-notifyQuestion from Kelly A.:  Every once in a while I’ll find out that one of my Facebook friends has deleted me at some point in the past.

Is there a setting I can change so that Facebook will alert me when someone unfriends me? Thanks in advance for answering my question.

Rick’s answer: Kelly, Facebook doesn’t send an alert whenever someone unfriends us, and there’s no setting we can change to turn that feature on. But there are a number of third-party browser extensions that do it quite well. The one that seems to work the best without adding a bunch of other junk to your browser is called Unfriend Notify.

Unfriend Notify is a very lightweight extension that basically just runs in the background, waiting for one of your friends to delete you from their Friends list. When they do, a small window will pop up letting you know about it. You can also visit your “Friends” page and click the “Lost Friends” link to see a list of everyone who has unfriended you.
