Q&A: How do I prevent Windows 10 from repeatedly booting up into ‘Safe Mode’?

Question from Jenna T.:  I need your help Rick.

I turned my computer on this morning and it booted up into Safe Mode instead of the normal mode.

I tried restarting the computer several times and it always boots into Safe Mode. It’s an HP laptop with Windows 10. How can I make it boot up normally like it should?

Enable the F8 key for booting into Safe Mode in Windows 8.1

windows-8-logoWhen Microsoft designed Windows 8/8.1 they optimized the boot process in order to make Windows load faster.

While this was a welcome change from previous Windows versions, the faster boot time made it impossible to use the F8 key to load the Boot Menu for booting into Safe Mode.

If you prefer the convenience of being able to boot into Safe Mode in Windows 8 by pressing the F8 key at startup over the faster boot process, you can re-enable the F8 key and have it work just like it always has. Here’s how:  [Read more…]

Question from Kendra:  Hi Rick. I really love your blog, especially the section where you answer questions from your readers.

If you don’t mind I’d like to ask a question of my own.

Back in early 2018 the tech guy I used at the time installed a Crucial 250GB SSD in my Dell laptop and it really made it run a lot faster.

I recently read on another site that all SSDs wear out over time because they can only be written to a certain number of times.

That has me sort of worried because this drive is now four years old and I have a lot of personal files on it that I don’t want to lose.

My question is do you think this drive is likely to fail at some time in the near future? [Read more…]
