Q&A: Will Windows 7 still work after Windows 10 is released?

microsoft-windowsQuestion from Millie H.:  I heard that Windows 10 is supposed to be released pretty soon. Will the Windows 7 that’s on my computer still work after that or will I need to buy Windows 10?

Rick’s answer:  Millie, you have nothing whatsoever to worry about. Your computer’s Windows 7 installation will work just fine for the foreseeable future. In fact, Microsoft has committed to supporting Windows 7 with regular security updates until the year 2020.

But that being said, you might want to consider upgrading your computer to Windows 10 when it is released anyway. Here’s why…

Users of Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1 will be able to upgrade to Windows 10 for free during the first year, and after using the Windows 10 Technical Preview for several months I can tell you that Windows 10 is going to be an outstanding operating system (in my humble opinion).

In a nutshell, you will have two great options available to you after Microsoft releases Windows 10:

1 – Keep on using Windows 7 like you are now, or…

2 – Upgrade your Windows 7 installation to Windows 10 for free.

Regardless of which option you choose, I believe you’ll be happy with your choice.
