Q&A: How do I stop AVG Antivirus from blocking a game?

Posted on May 16, 2014

avg-logoQuestion from Nelson F.:  Rick, I installed “Need for Speed” on my computer and every time I try to run it my AVG Antivirus program blocks it. How can I stop this from happening?

I really like AVG, but I’ll gladly give it up if I have to because I like Need for Speed more!

Rick’s answer:  This is a fairly common issue Nelson, and it’s very easy to fix. And no, you won’t have to give anything up.

All you need to do is exclude the “Need for Speed” folder from AVG’s Resident Shield Detection. Here’s how:

1 – Launch the AVG program.
2 – Select the Options menu, then click Advanced settings.
3 – In the left-hand pane, click Exceptions.
4 – Click Add exception in the right-hand pane.
5 – In the drop-down menu, select exception type – File or Folder.
6 – Browse to the Need for Speed folder.
7 – Choose to apply the exception to other AVG components.
8 – Click OK to save details of the exception.
9 – Click OK.

That’s all there is to it Nelson. Good luck!

Update from Nelson:  That did it Rick! Thanks!
