How to instantly silence a ringing smartphone

Posted on July 4, 2024

Have you ever been in a setting where complete silence was expected only to have your smart phone start ringing?

Whether it was during a church service, an important business meeting or in a packed movie theater, it was probably quite an embarrassing event.

In all likelihood you panicked and started fumbling around trying to get the phone out of your pocket so you could tap “Decline” as quickly as possible to make the ringing stop.

That’s never a pleasant experience!

Well, just in case that ever happens again (and it probably will), remember that you can instantly silence most any ringing smartphone by simply pressing any physical button.

That’s right, you don’t have to formally “decline” a call by tapping that option on the screen. Simply press any button that’s located anywhere on your phone and it’ll stop ringing immediately.

What’s more, you probably won’t even have to remove your phone from your pocket or purse.

Simply grab the phone with your entire hand and give it a squeeze. You’re virtually guaranteed to press a button in the process.

Of course it helps to know in advance where the buttons on your particular phone are located, so I recommend that you take a minute or two on occasion to practice pressing the buttons without actually looking at your phone.

With a little bit of practice you’ll be able to instantly silence your phone after just the first ring!

Bonus tip: Be sure to put your phone in airplane mode or turn off the ringer after you get it to stop ringing because the caller just might try to call you again!
