showpassword-extension-logoQuestion from Julia V.:  I have a question about passwords Rick.

I use pretty long passwords that contain special characters. I often make a mistake when typing a password and have to re-enter the password again. That’s very frustrating to say the least.

Is there a setting in Chrome that will let you review a password you typed before pressing the Enter key or clicking the Login button?

Rick’s answer:  I know exactly what you mean Julia, because I used to have the same problem.

To answer your question, there is no setting in Chrome for revealing entered passwords, but there’s a fantastic Chrome extension called ShowPassword that can help.

Once you add the extension to your Chrome browser you’ll be able to display an entered password at any time simply by hovering your mouse pointer over the password field. I’ve been testing this extension for a good while now, and it works extremely well.

Follow these steps to install and use the ShowPassword extension:

1 – To install ShowPassword, simply visit this page with your Chrome browser and click the Add to Chrome button.

2 – To use the extension, simply type your password into the password field in most any form, then hover your mouse pointer over it.

I hope this helps Julia. Give it a try and let me know what you think.

Update from Julia: This is just what I was looking for Rick. Thanks!

Bonus tip: This post explains why it’s a bad idea to let your browser store your passwords.
