You probably know by now that I’m constantly driving home the importance of creating regular backups of your computer’s hard drive or SSD.
But truth be told, how you store your backup drive is just as important as creating backups in the first place because a backup that ends up getting destroyed in a fire or some other disaster cannot be used to recover your files onto a new computer.
Ideally you could store your backup drive in a bank safety deposit box to ensure that a house fire or other disaster can’t wipe out your backup, but that’s an impractical solution for many people.
After all, who has the time to make a trip to the bank to retrieve their backup drive every time they create a new backup, and then make another trip to place the drive back in their safety deposit box?
Well, the solution that I’ve been using for several years now is to simply keep my backup drive tucked away inside a fireproof and waterproof safe, and the safe I’ve been using for most of that time is this fantastic SentrySafe Black Fireproof and Waterproof Safe.
This safe has served me well over the years, and it’s still in like-new condition after numerous openings and closings of the lid.
It’s designed to withstand a temperature of 1550°F for 1/2 hour. This should be sufficient to safeguard your items in most situations since the vast majority of house fires are extinguished before the fire fully engulfs the entire structure.
This safe’s weight is substantial for its size, making it very unlikely to get blown away by heavy winds. It’s also well insulated with no air gaps, ensuring excellent protection against the extreme heat generated by a typical house fire.
Of course it will also protect a lot more than just your backup drive. It has plenty of space for your birth certificate, marriage license, life insurance policy, home title deeds, car titles and your other most essential documents.
While there’s no guarantee that any safe will protect your important belongings in the event of a catastrophic fire that burns your house to the ground, keeping them inside a high quality fireproof safe is a lot better than just keeping them in a desk drawer.
This particular safe has served me well for years and I believe it’s a great value for the money.
Your backup hard drive / SSD and important documents need to be protected. This safe offers about the best protection you can get without spending a fortune.
