Question from Autumn J.: I have two Chromecast devices. One of them is attached to a TV in the living room and the other is in my den.
Both of the Chromecasts have names that look very much alike when viewed on the Chromecast app, and that confuses my mom every time she comes over to spend the night with me (which she does frequently). She’s always choosing the wrong device and wondering why the TV isn’t working like it should.
I set up a cheap Android tablet for her to use to control the Chromecast devices. My question is how can I give both devices a distinctive name to make it easier for mom to choose the right Chromecast from the app?
Rick’s answer: Hi Autumn. I agree that modern technology can make things a bit confusing at times, and the situation you described above is a good example.
Luckily, it’s very easy to give each of your Chromecast devices its own name. Here’s how:
1 – Open the Chromecast app on the Android tablet.
2 – Tap the Devices tab.
3 – Tap the gear-shaped Settings button for one of your Chromecast devices.
4 – Tap Name, then select a new name for that device. You can call it anything you want, but I suggest choosing something simple and descriptive like “Living Room” or “Den”.
5 – Repeat the steps listed above for your other Chromecast device.
That’s all there is to it Autumn. From now on your mom should be able to easily choose the right device from the Chromecast app. Good luck!
