Question from Adam G.: I’ve been using Avast Antivirus for a few months, and for the most part I really like it. I know you use it too, so I thought you might be able to help me solve a problem I’m having with it.
I was just tipped off by one of my customers that Avast is placing what is essentially an ad promoting their software into the footer of my outgoing emails.
I actually don’t mind the ad in my personal emails since Avast allows me to use their software for free, but I don’t like them showing up in my business emails. How can I remove them?
Rick’s answer: Adam, I’ve been using Avast for several years and I frequently recommend it in my blog posts. It really is an outstanding antivirus product!
Luckily, it’s very easy to prevent Avast from adding their signature line to your outgoing emails. Simply follow these steps:
1 – Double-click the Avast icon that’s located in the system tray (at the bottom-right corner of the screen). You should now see the Avast User Interface.
2 – Click the Menu icon located in the top-right corner of the window, then select Settings from the drop-down menu.
3 – Make sure the “General” tab is selected, then uncheck the box beside Enable Avast email signature.
4 – Select the Components tab.
5 – Click the Customize link on the “Mail Shield” line.
6 – Select the Behavior tab.
7 – Find the line that says Insert note into clean message (outgoing). If the box on that line is checked, uncheck it.
8 – Click the OK button located at the bottom of the window, then click OK again.
That’s all there is to it. Your outgoing emails should no longer include any mention of Avast.
I hope this helps, Adam. Good luck!
