Q&A: Why do your old ‘Pictures of the Day’ on Facebook all show the same photo after you click on them?

Posted on February 12, 2021

Question from Nina P.:  Hi Rick. First, I want to thank you for sharing all the beautiful pictures with us every morning.

They really start my day off on a positive note!

Now, a question. When I go through your page and click on the older pictures it always shows the last one you posted.

Why is that? I love seeing the old photos too!

Rick’s answer:  Thanks so much for your kind words about my “Pictures of the Day”, Nina. I’m very glad you enjoy them!

To answer your question, the reason why clicking on an “old” POTD takes you to the latest one is because there is only one “Picture of the Day” page on my blog.

The picture in the POTD blog post changes every morning to feature the latest selection.

And since all of the old POTD posts on Facebook link to that same blog post it will always show the latest photo.

The reason I only have the one “Picture of the Day” post on the blog and update it every morning is to keep from bloating the site with literally thousands of photo posts.

After all, the primary purpose of Rick’s Daily Tips is to provide useful tech tips for my readers and I don’t want to hinder that goal by posting a ton of photos that would have to compete with the “tips” posts for the readers’ attention.

But all the above being said, the “old” photos will always be available for viewing on Facebook!

I hope this cleared it up for you, Nina. Thanks again!

Update from Nina: It did, Rick. And it makes perfect sense. Keep the wonderful pictures coming!
