How to solve the problem of macOS Monterey Freezing

Posted on November 25, 2021

Have you recently updated your Mac to macOS Monterey only to have it start freezing up on you? If so, you know how frustrating it is.

Many reasons can lead to this problem, and the purpose of this post is to help you solve the issue.

Here are a few things you can do to avoid freeze-ups without wasting your time:

1 – Close apps that work on the background

Some unnecessary applications can run in the background and eat up system resources, so it can slow down the new OS.

Don’t forget to check out the Activity Monitor to see if there are any unused programs there. In many cases, it helps to solve problems with the slow OS Monterey and also saves your time and nerves.

2 – Reset the SMC on the Mac

This is a system management controller in your device that should be reset if you experience any of issues listed below:

● Mac works too slow even without many opened apps

● You experience any problems with the laptop’s battery

● When the button “Power” is pressed, the device isn’t respond

● Your computer has a low performance

● The Mac’s video and external displays do not work properly

3 – Remove heavy applications from the device

When your Mac starts to work slowly with no reason, it may happen due to big programs on it that take up its memory resources.

Check out if you have any unused big apps on the computer and uninstall them properly. Remember that you should check this information in the Activity Monitor and stop unnecessary programs.

When you have stopped and removed all the huge unused apps, your device will work much faster.

4 – Turn on the energy saver

Using this mode, it’s simple to stop those programs on your Mac which take up a lot of its CPU resources to increase the performance. Use this simple and effective tip to restore your device’s performance.

To turn on the energy saver mode, you need to find System Preferences, and then select Energy Saver – Automatic graphics switching. Even a user with no experience with computers can do it easily!

5 – Clean the dust out of the fan

If your Mac is older than 1 year, it’s time to think about cleaning it because it can slow down due to dust inside. The fan of the computer cannot work properly, so the device isn’t cooled enough, and of course, it works slower.

Cleaning the fan is the best decision to make it work better! Honestly, some users are in shock after they see how much dust has been inside their Macs for many years. So, keep your device clean outside and inside to prevent any problems!

6 – Avoid computer viruses

Macs can be attacked by various computer viruses, so their work can be slowed down due to this. That’s why you have to take care of your device and protect it from malware and other viruses with reliable software. Of course, you should download any programs from a reliable source.

A good program will scan your device automatically and report about any suspicious files and software which have to be removed. Apart from this, antivirus software can help to clean your computer from unnecessary applications and documents to get more free space and increase the Mac’s performance.

7 – Downgrade your device to the previous OS version

In some cases, nothing can help to make your device work fast, so the wisest way is to downgrade to the previous OS version on your Mac.

Maybe your device doesn’t support Monterey or the installation wasn’t successful. Anyway, the new OS Monterey doesn’t support old applications you may need for work, so it means you will have to downgrade to use those programs successfully.

For downgrading, you should use backup created on your Mac earlier using the Time Machine. It is the safest and fastest way to come back to the previous version of the OS you have used on the device and save all the important files on its hard drive without damage.

8 – Ask for help from professionals

In some situations, unexpected issues may happen with your device when you have no idea what to do. It’s better to ask Apple support for qualified help and fix the issue without wasting your time and losing any information from the computer.

You can find the nearest Apple center in your area and ask them to help solve any problem you might be having with your Mac.
