windows-7There are several ways to open the Control Panel in Windows 7, but if you use it a lot like I do you can add it to the menu that pops up whenever you right-click on the Desktop.

Important: This tip requires editing the Windows Registry, a procedure that if done incorrectly can render your system unstable, or even unbootable.

By following this tip you understand and agree that it isn’t my fault if lightning strikes your favorite tree, your flowers all shrivel up and die or your computer refuses to start up properly after editing the Registry.

If you agree with everything I just said, then feel free to create a Restore Point and then proceed as follows:

1 – Click the Start Orb and type regedit into the Search box, then press the Enter key.

2 – Navigate to this registry key:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\shell

3 – Right-click on shell and create a new key and name it Control Panel.

4 – Right-click on the Control Panel entry you just created and create a new key and name it command.

5 – In the right hand pane, right-click on (Default) and click Modify.

6 – Under Value data:, type rundll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL and click OK.

7 – Click File>Exit to close the Registry Editor.

From now on you’ll be able to open the Control Panel simply by right-clicking on the Desktop and clicking Control Panel!
