Question from Brittney:  A couple of my friends and I just rented a house near campus together, and so far it’s working out ok (fingers crossed on that lol).

We had Xfinity cable and Internet installed and they placed the modem/router combo box in the living room beside the TV.

Since I can’t run a cable from the living room to my bedroom, I’ll have to connect my Dell laptop to the Internet over the WiFi network. The problem is the WiFi on the laptop stopped working a while back.

Is there any way to connect my laptop to the router over WiFi? I need a solution that’s as cheap as possible, but still works good. I know that’s a lot to ask for lol. I also know I might just be out of luck. I really can’t afford to buy a new laptop right now if I can possibly avoid it.

Rick’s answer:  Brittney, as luck would have it there is a very inexpensive and effective solution to your problem.

All you need to do is buy an inexpensive USB WiFi Adapter and simply plug it into an open USB port on your PC.

These things are incredibly easy to install. Just plug it in and you’ll be able to connect to your WiFi network right away.

There are tons of these adapters to choose from on Amazon or at most any local electronics retailer, and they don’t cost much at all. If you’d like a specific recommendation, I’ve been using this one for a while and it works great.

I hope this helps, Brittney. Good luck!

Update from Brittney:  Thanks so much! I ordered the adapter you recommended and it’s working perfectly. You’re a lifesaver!
