Q&A: Why can’t I find the setting to turn on Facebook Protect?

Question from Sandy:  Rick, I read your warning about getting Facebook Protect enabled on my account.

I tried to find it on both my 6s Plus iPhone and tablet, but I never found it on either device.

My tablet is several years old.

Am I doing something wrong or is it possible that my devices just don’t offer it?

Rick’s answer:  Sandy, the Facebook Protect enhanced security feature is still being rolled out to users and not everyone who is eligible to use it has the ability to enable it just yet.

Also, not every Facebook user will be allowed to turn on Facebook Protect, at least not right away.

As of right now, Facebook Protect is only being made available to people who are “in the public eye” (to use Facebook’s terminology).

My guess is Facebook will eventually roll this out to every Facebook user, but that will likely take some time if it happens at all.

In the meantime, keep a look out for an email from Facebook saying your account has been updated with the setting to turn it on.

You can read more about the new Facebook Protect enhanced security feature on this help page on the Facebook website.

That page provides more detailed information about the Facebook Protect feature, including how to tell whether the email you might be receiving about Facebook Protect is authentic or a fake copycat email that was sent from a scammer.

I hope this helps, Sandy. I wish you all the best!
