I hope you can help me solve a problem I’m having with my Chrome browser (it’s the only browser I use).
When I do Google searches I seem to get a lot of results from Tumblr, and many of the ones I click on are really nasty pages that I’d rather not see.
I try real hard to avoid clicking on any Tumblr links when I search for things but sometimes I mess up and click one by accident.
Is there any way to completely block ALL pages from Tumblr without also blocking any other websites?
I looked through the Chrome settings but I couldn’t find a way to do it.
Rick’s answer: I certainly understand your frustration with Tumblr, May. There really is a LOT of unsavory content hosted there.
The reason you couldn’t find a Chrome setting to block a specific website from your search results is because no such setting exist.
However, you can easily block a site from appearing in your Google searches simply by appending the following to the end of your search query:
-site:example.com
Just replace the example.com part with the domain of the site you wish to omit from the search results and you’ll be all set.
For example, let’s say you’re wanting to search for the term “vacation” and you want to block Tumblr pages from the search results. This is what you would type into the Google search box:
vacation -site:tumblr.com
You can even block more than one site at a time. For example, to block both Tumblr and Pinterest you would type this into the search box:
vacation -site:tumblr.com -site:pinterest.com
That’s all there is to it. Simply use the -site: trick and you’ll be able to block Tumblr and/or any other site(s) from your search results.
