It’s easy to forget to sign out of Facebook every time you move on to doing something else.
For example, perhaps you’re driving home after using either a friend’s PC or your work PC and you suddenly realize that you forgot to log out of your Facebook account before leaving.
Or maybe you used one of the machines in your school’s computer lab and forgot to log out of Facebook at the end of your session.
Or even worse, let’s say a hacker has managed to steal your password and he is currently logged into your account doing the illicit things that hackers love to do.
Whatever the circumstance, it’s extremely important that you always log out of your Facebook account if there’s a possibility that someone else could end up using that same computer or mobile device after you’re finished with it.
There’s also a chance that hackers have broken into your account as well. If so, you can log them out of the account remotely using your own device, and then change your password and enable Two-Factor Authentication on your account. Even better, you can set up passkey to make your account even more secure.
As luck would have it, it’s very easy to log out of any or all active Facebook sessions from whatever device you happen to have at your disposal by following the instructions below.
Close active Facebook sessions using a laptop or desktop computer:
1 – Log in to your Facebook account and click your little profile picture located beside the “Notifications Bell” in the top-right corner of the window.
2 – Click Settings & Privacy.
4 – Click Settings.
5 – In the left-hand pane, click Password and Security.
6 – Also in the left-hand pane, click Password and Security again.
7 – Scroll down to “Security checks” section and click Where you’re logged in.
You should now see the computer that you are currently using to access your Facebook account.
8 – Click on your computer.
You should now see a list of all the devices that you are currently signed into Facebook with, including the day signed in with that device.
9 – Scroll down to the bottom of the list and click Select devices to log out.
10 – Check the box beside every device that you want to sign out of your Facebook account on. You can just click the Select all link to select all the devices at once.
11 – Click the Log out button, then click Log out again to confirm that you really want to sign out on the selected devices.
Close active Facebook sessions using a mobile device:
1 – Log in to your Facebook account and tap your little profile picture in the top-right corner of the screen.
2 – Scroll down and tap the Settings & Privacy link.
3 – Tap the Settings link.
4 – Tap Password and security and follow the prompts as they appear (the procedure from here on out is basically the same as above.
That’s all there is to it. Now the only device that should be logged into your Facebook account is the one you’re using right this minute unless you chose to leave another device signed in.
Bonus tip: Unfortunately it’s getting harder by the day to stay safe online. This can help. (#ad)
