Q&A: Is there a way to boost the weak cellular signal in my home?

Question from Deneen:  My husband and I recently moved into a new home that’s located in a very hilly area.

We both have iPhones but the T-Mobile signal inside the house is very weak. We have no problem sending and receiving texts but we have lots of really irritating dropped calls.

We sprung for Xfinity Internet when we moved in, but we’d rather not have to install a landline phone if we can help it.

Is there any way we can boost the weak cellular signal enough to prevent the dropped calls? 

Rick’s answer:  Believe it or not Deneen, this is actually a very common problem for people who live in remote locations. But as luck would have it, you have a couple of options to choose from thanks to your Xfinity Internet connection:

1 – You can install a quality Cell Phone Booster in your home. There are several brands to choose from but based on my extensive research the one that works the best and is pretty much rock solid is the Hiboost Cell Phone Signal Booster.  (#ad)

The Highboost device works with all major carriers and by all reports it provides both rock-solid phone service and fast 5G Internet connections.

The advantage of using a cell phone booster is it’s a set-and-forget solution. Simply install the device and you’ll have a rock-solid cellular signal from that point forward.

The disadvantage of using a cell phone booster is it isn’t free, but many people consider it well worth the money simply because of the convenience it provides.

2 – Another option is to enable Wi-Fi Calling on your phones in order to send and receive both voice calls and text messages.

After you enable Wi-Fi Calling your phones will automatically use your Wi-Fi network to place and receive your calls instead of a cell tower.

From the user’s perspective, Wi-Fi calling is more or less the same as placing calls over a cell tower. You shouldn’t even notice a difference.

T-Mobile has put together a nice Wi-FI Info Page that explains how Wi-Fi Calling works if you’re interested in learning more about it. That page also has instructions for enabling Wi-Fi Calling on your phones.

The advantage of using Wi-Wi Calling is simple: it’s free.

The disadvantage of Wi-Fi Calling is your cellular service will return to being spotty any time your Internet service is down.

That’s all there is to it. Either of the two options I mentioned above will solve your poor signal issue.

Update from Deneen:  Thanks for the info Rick. My husband and I both enabled Wi-Fi Calling on our phones and now we can send and receive calls just fine!
