How to choose a good replacement charger for your mobile devices

These days it seems like we’re always needing to find a replacement charger for our phones because they’re so easy to lose, and they “tear up” so often.

The next time you find yourself in need of a new charger, keep in mind that you have several options.

First of all, you can buy a new factory-made OEM charger that’s made specifically for your device.

If you’re the extremely cautious type you can rest assured that this is the safest option possible because your new charger will perfectly match your device.

Unfortunately, it’s also the most expensive option, and in fact quite unnecessary.

One of the best options if your phone is older or isn’t that expensive a model is to simply use an old (but working) charger that you already own. Most of us have a drawer full of old chargers sitting around, just taking up space.

Chances are one or more of those old chargers will work just fine with your phone, especially if you tend to remain with the same brand when you upgrade. Just make sure the connector fits without forcing it

Another great option is to buy a high quality third-party charger.

If you decide to go this route, be sure to choose a well-known brand and a model that has lots of great user reviews. Personally, I’m a huge fan of Anker devices.

The most important thing to look for in any charger is an automatic shut-off feature to prevent over-charging. That one very important feature will help your phone’s battery last as long as possible before it needs to be replaced.

A great way to ensure that you get a high-quality charger is to look up the model(s) you’re interested in on Amazon and read the reviews that other users have left for it.

I strongly recommend that you steer clear of the no-name knock-off chargers on Ebay. Many of them could damage your phone – or even worse, potentially cause a fire!

And finally, if you’re needing a charger that will work with your tablets, make sure you choose one that’s rated to supply enough current to charge them in a reasonable amount of time.

If you buy from Amazon you’ll usually find the types of devices it will work with listed right in the item description. If the item description doesn’t explicitly say the charger works with tablets (and which tablets it works with), it probably doesn’t.

Bottom line: Most new chargers come quipped with either standard USB or USB-C connectors which makes it very easy to share a single charger among several different devices (including iPhones and iPads) simply by selecting a matching charging cable.

Just be sure to choose one that has an automatic shut-off feature and excellent user ratings and you’ll be good to go.
